Things to Do in Harissa

A bronze statue watches over Lebanon from 650 meters above the Mediterranean, and the views from Mount Harissa will make you understand why pilgrims have climbed here for over a century. Our Lady of Lebanon towers 8.5 meters tall, dominating this sacred site since 1908. The place works well. Harissa manages something rare—sacred space that feels welcoming rather than intimidating. You'll see families picnicking beside the basilica while pilgrims light candles just meters away. The cable car ride from Jounieh adds real adventure to the journey, and on clear days the views stretch from Beirut to the northern mountains.

Harissa offers basic cafes and snack stands near the basilica. Real food happens in Jounieh below—excellent seafood restaurants line the bay, plus traditional mezze houses and modern cafes. Many visitors combine Harissa with Jounieh dining, which makes perfect sense given the coastal location and limited evening options on the mountain.

Spring and fall deliver the best experience. March through May and September through November offer comfortable walking weather and the clearest views for photography—summer midday heat can be brutal despite the elevation. Winter fog sometimes blocks views entirely, while religious holidays bring authentic pilgrimage crowds alongside the usual tourist masses.
